Someone asked me to post the tunings Chris Proctor gave me for
his albums.
These are listed low string ---to--- high string.
Runoff: These are actually on the album cover:
Side one:
1. Late Again: CFCFAC
2. An Introspection: standard, capo 2nd fret
3. Phillip's Whimsey: DADGBD, capo 2nd fret
4. The Sunset Medley: DGDGBD
5. Runoff: DADGBD, capo 2nd fret
Side two:
1. Tiptoes: standard, capo 2nd fret
2. Over the Pass: CGCEGC << I play this one a whole step higher, in open D >>
3. Canyonlands: DADGBD, capo 2nd fret
4. The Winfield Rag: standard, capo 2nd fret
5. Sleepytime: DADGBD, capo 2nd fret
As you can see, there is a preference here for what I call "double-dropped-D
tuning", this is called D-modal, isn't it? (I mean the DADGBD)
The Delicate Dance: These are from Chris at his workshop:
Side one:
1. Stormwatch: DADGBD
2. Swept Away: DGDG Bb D
3. A Trip to Jackie's House: standard, with 3rd hand capo = Esus4.
the third hand capo is a gadget you can buy that lets you capo
each string individually
4. The Smiling Islands: CGDGBD
5. The Huckleberry Hornpipe: DGDGBD
6. The Bells of the Harbor: DAD F# AD (open D)
Side two:
1. Bush Pilot Syndrome: DAD F# AD (open D)
2. Seldovia: same as 3, side one.
3. The Sad Pig Dance: same as 2, side one.
<< This is a Dave Evans song; I checked Dave's album (of the same name)
and the tunings aren't listed. >>
4. Jennifer Juniper: dropped D
5. Back to Scotland: DAD F# AD / DGDG Bb D
6. The Delicate Dance
I noticed later that there were six songs on side two; not 5. I don't
know if he meant the DGDGBbD to be for the sixth song or if song 5
has two parts.
Journey Home
<< I can't find my copy of this album, so I don't know the song titles but
I'll post the tunings anyway. Can anybody post the song titles? >>
Side one:
1. EA C# EBE
2. CGDGBD
3. standard
4. standard with 3rd hand capo = Esus4
5. CGDGBD
Side two:
1. EA C# EBE
2. DADGBD
3. standard
4. dropped D
5. DADGBD
Since the workshop, Chris has a newer album (or maybe even more I don't
know about) called Steel String Stories. In the workshop, he told me
on future albums he would include the tunings but alas, he didn't
on Steel String Stories. Oh well.
