Well, I didn't make it for the first concert, due to the damned tickets
being sold out.

But the second one I did make it.

The Ark in Ann Arbor, MI is a great venue to see him, or anyone. Quite
cozy and imtimate setting, rather than a grand concert hall.

He brought the Taylor 12 string, and also a 6 string that was the same
exact guitar except for being a 6 rather than a 12 (anyone have a model
#?).

He played a few songs off of Peculiaroso (the only one I remember was
"Lying in the Arms of Mary," a beauty of a song [actually, called "Arms of
Mary" on the album, but he introduced it with the former title]), many
standards, and also a few (Little Martha and Echoing Gilewitz) from A
Shout Toward Noon, still one of my favorite albums, and he has been
playing these two a lot the last few years.

He took a few requests ("Louise" was one -- this is the first time I've
heard him do that one live, I think) and was in a good mood, though he
flubbed a couple times. But the audience was forgiving. He even hit a sour
note once and then grimaced so that the audience laughed out loud, then he
hit the same note again on purpose. Nice touch.

He signed autographs afterwards at the back of the room. I'm not one for
autographs, so I didn't care for that, but I did stick around to ask him
what the tuning was for "Echoing Gilewitz." (It's open D, for all of you
who appreciate that piece as much as I do and want to learn it). He seemed
a bit uncomfortable with all these people seeking autographs and such, and
once when he came out to sign more and I was waiting to ask him about the
tuning, everyone just sort of hushed and quaked in awe. While I was
slightly nervous, I really didn't think anything of it, and kind of
blurted my question out in front of other people ahead of me because they
were just standing there looking like they were in love or something.
Granted, he's amazing and his guitar work is almost supernatural, but
hell, he takes a shit like you and me. Or maybe not...

Anyway...quite nice. The evening had several of those musical pieces that
pull at your heart and renew your appreciation for all that which is
human.

And of course it made me go back and start practicing again.

I picked up a few new techniques, but still can't for the life of me get
my right-hand thumb bent in anywhere near the same angle he does. Anyone
ever notice that? It's almost like it was broken and set back in a near-45
degree angle from that which is normal.

"Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?" Pooh queried.
